SAFE NAVIGATION INTERFACE FOR BICYCLISTS

CHALLENGE

USING PHONES WHILE DRIVING

Phone usage on the bike can be extremely dangerous. A lot of bike accidents happen because the cyclists are being distracted by their phones.

TOO FOCUSED ON THE GOAL

Commuters within a city are usually solely focused on arriving at their destination without experiencing the surroundings. This can result in a lot of stress.

SOLUTION

The NAVEE handlebar brings intelligence to the bike.  enables the user to navigate through urban areas without using their smartphone. The NAVEE will function as an extension of the smartphone giving turn-by-turn navigation in the corner of the eye. This gives the user the chance to be aware of dangerous obstacles ahead when driving the bike.

PROJECT DETAILS

COMPANY

Intuitive Motion is an American manufacturer of personal electric vehicles based in California. Their first product is the Zboard which was one of the first kickstarter campaigns to fund 360% of their original goal raising almost $280,000.

PROJECT

This project started as a master course called Joint Master Project given on the Delft University of Technology. It then continued into the summer vacation as a freelance colaboration project between the company and two students.

MY ROLE

My role within this project was the project manager in a team of 6 master students. I led the team through the toughest course of the masters program. I learned a lot about what it takes to be a team leader. The challenges were balancing different expectations and directing 6 very different designers.
